BACKGROUND OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/72/279 elevated the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), now renamed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSCDF), as the most important instrument for the planning and implementation of United Nations development activities in each country, to be prepared and finalized in consultation and agreement with national Governments. The Cooperation Framework (CF) further guides the entire UN programme planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of collective UN support on country level for achieving the 2030 Agenda. The cooperation framework further reflects and articulate the contemporary relationship between the Government of Kenya and the UN system collective support in collaborating to achieve the SDGs priorities and gaps.

With 2018-2022 development cooperation framework coming to an end in June 2030, the UN system in Kenya led by the Resident Coordinator, initiated the preparation of the 2022-2026 UNSDCF that sets out the specific areas for UN support as part of the framework of DAO.

Within the framework of the 5-year cycle of the UNSDCF, the UN in collaboration with GOK and other key stakeholders has formulated a new UNSDCF 2022 – 2026. The new UNSDCF will focus on shaping the overall direction and strategic choices for the GOK-UN programme of cooperation. The formulation of the UNSDCF overlaps with the formulation of the GOK ‘s MTP VI which is well advanced and will be finalized in December 2022.
